Education support
We maintain a team of Medical Educators who support Registrars in meeting their educational and learning objectives. Part of this support includes regular in-practice education visits and pastoral care.
Registrars in community terms are expected to participate in a formal training release program over the course of the year. All of our practices agree to release the Registrars for a set number of days so that they can attend formal training, workshops, and events. Regular Registrar-directed learning (RDL) sessions ensure that Registrars are able to benefit from peer-directed initiatives and interaction.
External courses
Each of the Registrars at Adelaide to Outback has access to up to $500 for courses that may assist them in their role as General Practitioners. In order to access these funds, the Medical Director must approve of the desired activity. This funding is a reimbursement.
Apart from the obvious courses available that cover areas of the core curriculum, courses that Registrars have undertaken include computer or IT-oriented training, grief counselling, SHINE SA courses, education weekends held by local Divisions of General Practice, emergency training courses, and refresher courses such as Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
Emergency training
The requirements for dedicated emergency skills training is largely dependent on which pathway a Registrar trains in, and what, if any, advanced training has been previously undertaken. Nevertheless, all Registrars gain the opportunity to participate in emergency simulation training.

Learning plans
All of our Registrars need to develop a learning plan that is followed and updated throughout their training. Learning plans are a requirement of AGPT. They also enable Registrars to identify areas of need which can help in planning both in-practice and out-of-practice education.
There are many ways of developing a learning plan, and they don't need to be complicated. AOGP uses GPRIME as it's an online educational info-management tool and learning plans are stored and accessed using this platform.
GPET provides a guide to developing a learning plan that is useful. It can be accessed through their website.
Our Medical Director and team of Medical Educators are always available to help Registrars learning plan development.
