About the Program

Our education program has been designed to meets or exceed RACGP and ACRRM Standards, Department of Health and Ageing needs, and the needs of the Australian community. We place a priority on regional health needs.

The program is based on key educational concepts and principles, as outlined in the curricula developed by the RACGP and ACRRM, and incorporates the full spectrum of knowledge, skills and attitudes required by Registrars for independent General Practice.

The RACGP curriculum identifies five domains of General Practice competence, and twelve key curriculum areas that are based mainly on population health concepts. These form the framework that our Registrars use to develop learning plans for the acquisition of General Practice knowledge and skills.

The program is structured so that all Registrars will satisfy the requirements to sit the FRACGP examination, and gain full vocational registration. While this normally takes a minimum of three years, rural Registrars may choose to gain the FACRRM or the RACGP Fellowship of Australian Rural General Practice. Rural Registrars may also choose to complete a fourth year, giving them the option to undertake further rural training, such as Advanced Rural Skills Posts.
