Supervisor Modules

Supervisor Modules Toolbox

Introduction

These modules have been developed in response to discussions we have had with our Supervisors in which they expressed a desire for some assistance to teach “challenging” topics in General Practice.

The modules were developed and written by a group of GPs, educators and subject experts with the primary aim of assisting the Supervisor to deliver the teaching. The modules are not stand alone resources, and their value is in encouraging planning for learning as well as providing a structure for a meaningful learning interaction between the Registrar and the Supervisor.

Most modules will include pre teaching session activities for the Registrar, a teaching session worksheet that the Supervisor can work through, as well as a post session worksheet. We imagined the Registrar approaching a Supervisor to discuss a learning need, the Supervisor opening the “red toolbox” icon on the computer to see what the teaching modules had to offer, and then opening up the relevant topic. The Supervisor would then print out the Registrar pre teaching session worksheet and hand it to the Registrar, who would prepare for the teaching session that they would both set aside time for later. When the day of the teaching session came around, the Supervisor would open the Supervisor worksheet and either work through it on the screen or after printing it out.

Please note that there are links throughout the modules. Therefore, if you are printing out sheets to use you may wish to check if there are any links that you would also like printed out.

We hope that you will use these modules and find them a useful addition to your educational needs.
