The Department of General Practice, established in November 1993, is an academic research/teaching department within the School of Medicine at Flinders University, which is co-located with Flinders Medical Centre.

The Department of Health and Ageing has responsibility for advising on general rural health strategies and for delivering a range of targeted activities supported by their Portfolio to improve the health and well being of Australians living in regional, rural and remote localities. The Department of Health and Ageing also has a wider role in monitoring programs delivered by other parts of their Portfolio and which impact on rural and regional communities.

GPRA - "Strive for excellence in General Practice education, thereby ensuring improved health care outcomes for the Australian community".

GP Learning is an international standard medical education website, endorsed by the RACGP, which offers GPs nearly 100 interactive activities, with more each month.

The HECS Reimbursement Scheme commenced in 2000-01.
Participants in the scheme, who undertake training or provide medical services in designated rural and remote areas of Australia, will have one fifth of their HECS medical fees reimbursed for each year of service.
The scheme applies to Australian medical graduates who choose to undertake postgraduate training, or provide medical services in designated rural and remote areas.
For the purposes of the HECS Reimbursement Scheme, the Rural, Remote and Metropolitan Areas (RRMA) classifications 3-7 are used for defining eligible areas.

The National Rural Faculty (NRF) is the Academic Faculty within The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners responsible for the award of the Fellowship in Advanced Rural General Practice /Graduate Diploma in Rural General Practice which includes the completion of Advanced Rural Skills Posts to provide potential rural GPs with essential procedural skills.

The NRF has developed resources which are ideal for rural and remote general practice registrars or other medical practitioners preparing to sit the college examination. Exam preparation DVDs.

The Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia is a not-for-profit charitable service providing aeromedical emergency and primary health care services together with communication and education assistance to people who live, work and travel in regional and remote Australia.

The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners is Australia's largest general practitioner organisation as well as being the largest clinical college. It is recognised as the arbiter of standards for general practice. Currently the College has over 10,000 members.

The Spencer Gulf Rural Health School (SGRHS) was established in 2001 as a joint venture between the University of Adelaide and the University of South Australia. The School is a multidisciplinary entity that brings together the South Australian Centre For Rural and Remote Health (SACRRH) and the Adelaide University Rural Clinical School (AURCS) as a single operational unit.
