Fellowship Support Program
Adelaide to Outback GP Training Program (AOGP) has been providing support to rural-based International Medical Graduates (IMGs) within the AOGP training region preparing for the RACGP examination via the alternative pathway since 2003. This was enabled through vision and funding from Rural Doctors Workforce Agency (RDWA). A basic model for this support is shown below. The model is based around a regionally distributed team of IMG Medical Educators to provide localised support, and an Education Support Team to coordinate the process. The acquisition of recent additional funding has allowed for important enhancement of the existing support program (see ROVE). We believe this is essential for the sustainability of our program.

The AOGP project team has developed an effective process of individualising education support. The whole program is tailored to each IMG’s individual needs, while still providing information essential to understanding the requirements of the RACGP exam.
Our education support is driven by a team of IMG Medical Educators. The team is made up of Registrar-graduates, GP Supervisors, and IMG Fellowship Support Program graduates. They have diverse backgrounds and medical experiences, but are all passionate about education.
